MESHUGGAH Guitarist Speaks Out On OZZFEST 2002 Experience
July 29, 2002MESHUGGAH guitarist Mårten Hagström recently spoke to MTV.com about the experience of playing the second stage at this year's Ozzfest and the unusual amount of support the band have received from other artists and musicians—a list that includes TOOL, SLAYER and SYSTEM OF A DOWN, among others.
"I heard that Jack Osbourne really wanted us to be on the second stage, which is of course a big help," Mårten said.
"It feels kind of good," Hagström said of being one of the more aggressive bands on the touring festival bill. "Because you know that every night you're gonna be one of the hardest acts and there's always people out there wanting to catch the hardest act. It's kind of a good thing, I think. It works to our advantage."
"What we do is strict metal, but still it has some overtone or vibe to it that doesn't really apply to other bands," the guitarist said. "I don't know why that is, it just comes out that way. The first time you hear us it's like, 'What's happening? What's going on?' People kind of go like that. But after a while, it kind of grows on you and I think that's our approach."
MESHUGGAH recently completed a new album, Nothing, which will be released on August 6th through Nuclear Blast Records.
